Worth the hype

Volcanos, glaciers, and rugged shores they practice moon missions on –Iceland is a unique holiday destination. This European island deserves the hype it gets.

Touching down in Keflavik Airport, a 40-minute drive from Reykjavik, it is best to rent a four-wheel drive. Especially if you’re visiting Iceland during the winter. On this island in the North-Atlantic Ocean, the weather can change unexpectedly, a steady car is the key to feeling safe and comfortable. There are strong gusts of wind, sporadic rain and snow, and minimal facilities en route.

Before departing, outline your itinerary. Seb (boyfriend & fellow traveller) and I planned our ‘must-sees’ and ‘maybes’ in an attempt to see plenty but still have a vacation vibe. During our week, the sturdy MG, from Blue Car Rental, took us around the island.

Our first stop was the Airbnb, located on the edge of Reykjavik. From here we’d plan our daily itinerary, bought groceries and were close to the highway, facilitating our commute to the spectacular sights. Driving in Iceland, as a European, is easy. The roads are clearly marked and in good condition and the scenery makes for a beautiful ride.
