The Ideal 7-Day Iceland Itinerary

Iceland is a beautiful and strange place and absolutely falls under one of the most spectacular and stunning countries I have ever visited. Having travelled with my boyfriend to Iceland this February (2023), we enjoyed a trip that seemed to be the perfect balance of exploring nature, driving around the island, and relaxing on the couch of our AirBNB. While a highly anticipated trip, we were keen not to fill it to the brim with “must sees” and “must dos”; we wanted the adventure to feel like a vacation.

We travelled through Iceland for a total of eight days, but getting to and from makes up almost a whole day. Therefore the “ideal” itinerary accounts for only seven days. My claim that this itinerary is “ideal”, comes from the fact that it was for us; if you’re travelling to Iceland with a similar mindset, it could also be your perfect list.

The flight from Amsterdam, our home, is only three hours. We arrived in the evening, and, while I had my doubts, it ended up working out great. There was no line at the car-rental pick up, no traffic on our way into Reykjavik, and after a long day of having worked, travelled, and navigated a new country, we were happy to curl into bed in our home for the week: a conveniently located AirBNB, in a regular neighbourhood on the…
